SILVERTON, Ore. — The Silverton Fire District has received a 2025 Wildfire Season Staffing Grant of up to $35,000 to increase staffing during Oregon’s peak summer wildfire season, the district announced Friday.
The grant, part of a $6 million program administered by the Oregon State Fire Marshal, supports 200 fire agencies across Oregon, many dependent on volunteer crews. Now in its fourth year, the program funds additional firefighters to enhance responses to wildfires and routine emergencies. It will add more than 1,500 seasonal firefighters statewide this year.
“This small grant has a big impact, helping protect Oregonians when it matters most,” said Oregon State Fire Marshal Mariana Ruiz-Temple. “It’s a key tool for local fire agencies to respond faster, protect communities, and support mutual aid. We’re grateful to our legislators for investing in community safety.”
The funding will allow Silverton to bolster staffing, ensuring quicker, safer responses to protect lives and property. “The OSFM wildfire staffing grant will significantly strengthen our emergency response and support for neighboring districts,” said Lt. Dan Brown of the Silverton Fire District. The district expressed gratitude for the grant, noting its role in enhancing wildfire season preparedness.

Since 2022, the grant has been vital for boosting preparedness during Oregon’s increasingly severe wildfire seasons. Agencies applied for up to $35,000 to hire seasonal staff, improving community safety statewide.
